Fancy a stay in a castle, and bracing sea air? Well, Blackpool is certainly bracing at any time of year, and the Norbreck Castle is a good place to retreat. True, it's not a real castle, but this is Blackpool, nothing is quite what it seems. Go and enjoy some good old-fashioned entertainment and camp it up for a weekend. Sequins in the ballroom anyone?

Perhaps you're looking for somewhere to head that's not to far, but will make you feel like you've had a luxury weekend away? Head for Deauville, home of the glitterati in the 1920s, and a quick drive off the Eurotunnel. Good food, it's on the coast, and the hotels are amazing. Our choice, the Normandy Barrière, great facilities including a spa, fitness centre and a great bar.

Now that Liz Hurley et al have left for a while, it's safe to venture back into the Cotswolds, which is the perfect location for a short break at this time of year. If you fancy the DIY option, then try a gorgeous cottage, like Courtyard House in Blockley. If you can leave the open fire long enough, the pub is nearby, and it's in an area of outstanding natural beauty if you fancy a stroll or two.

We're plumping for this apartment in Westminster, so right in the heart of things for a long weekend in London. Practically no need for cabs, you'll be on many night bus routes home!
